API capabilities
The same reports are available under /api/finance/v1/reports/* with finance:report:read, plus three API-only views with no app screen yet: general ledger by account (/reports/gl), accounts receivable balance with recent lines (/reports/ar), and refunds — customer credits balance with refund and return postings (/reports/refunds). Cash flow is a simplified v1 statement.
Closing the year
Fiscal years always run 1 January – 31 December. A new year opens automatically with its first transaction, so you never need to close a year to keep working. Close a year only after it ends, once year-end adjustments (stock count, depreciation, accountant entries) are posted — the app refuses to close a year early. Closing posts closing entries into retained earnings, carries opening balances into the next year, keeps historical journals, and locks the year against new postings (reopen it to correct it). New postings require an open period.
Profit & Loss for a closed year still shows that year’s operating performance (revenue, expenses, net income). The year-close journal zeros temporary accounts in the ledger for closing into equity, but it is excluded from P&L report totals so historical results remain readable. Balance sheet and cash-style reports continue to use the continuous ledger (opening-balance carry is excluded from cumulative as-of views so balances are not double-counted).
